Background
The Military Health System (MHS) delivers highly complex and effective therapy to beneficiaries. Clinical Preventive Services (CPS) are designed to enhance the delivery of healthcare, emphasizing preventive interventions that have demonstrated efficacy. Research done by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) produced strong evidence that using a variety of Clinical Preventive Services CPS can prevent, minimize, or delay many of the leading causes of injury, death, and disability. CPS are strategies specifically designed for primary care settings and include:
- Increasing the delivery of immunizations and chemoprophylaxis
- Screening for pre-clinical disease
- Counseling to facilitate healthier behavior choices
